Lisa Berghorst, Ph.D.

Dr. Berghorst is the founder of CBG Chicago. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University and completed her internship at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. Dr. Berghorst has particular expertise in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and related emotion regulation difficulties in children, adolescents, and young adults.  She uses evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), among others.  Dr. Berghorst also conducts educational workshops and trainings for schools, parents, and other mental health professionals.

Dr. Berghorst is currently on faculty at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and teaches graduate students within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She also serves on the Founders’ Board at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Berghorst co-authored the book Exposure Therapy for Treating Anxiety in Children and Adolescents: A Comprehensive Guide, published by New Harbinger in 2018. Dr. Berghorst has also published multiple book chapters and several articles in peer-reviewed journals.  These cover a range of clinical topics, including mood and anxiety disorders, stress, reward-processing, telehealth, and resilience.

Prior to establishing Cognitive Behavioral Growth, LLC, Dr. Berghorst worked as a Licensed Psychologist and the Director of Research at Alvord, Baker & Associates, LLC, in the Washington, DC area.  She also has extensive clinical and research experience from her work within the Emotion and Development Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health, the Affective Neuroscience Laboratory at Harvard University, and the Center for Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Research at McLean Hospital.
